🔥 Venezuela Accuses Trump of “Colonialist Threat” as Airspace Tensions Surge

🇻🇪 Rising Diplomatic Tensions Over Airspace Control

Venezuela has sharply condemned U.S. President Donald Trump after he declared on social media that airlines and pilots should treat the airspace above and around Venezuela as “fully closed.”
The Venezuelan foreign ministry said the statement was an illegal, colonial-style provocation and “an unjustified aggression against the Venezuelan people.”

🔥 Venezuela Accuses Trump of “Colonialist Threat” as Airspace Tensions Surge

Despite Trump’s warning, the United States has no legal authority to shut another nation’s airspace, though such statements could pressure airlines to avoid the region due to safety concerns.

⚠️ U.S. Military Build-Up Heightens Regional Anxiety

Washington has significantly expanded its military presence in the Caribbean, which U.S. officials claim is aimed at countering drug trafficking.
However, President Nicolás Maduro argues the U.S. is using the drug trade narrative as a pretext to destabilize his government.

Recent U.S. actions include:

  • Deployment of the USS Gerald Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier
  • Nearly 15,000 American troops moved near Venezuelan territory
  • At least 21 strikes on boats allegedly transporting narcotics—claims still lacking public evidence

✈️ Airline Restrictions Increase the Fallout

Just days before Trump’s statement, Venezuela banned six major international airlines—including Iberia, TAP Portugal, Gol, Latam, Avianca, and Turkish Airlines—after they failed to resume flights within a government-issued 48-hour deadline.

The decision has intensified global travel uncertainty, especially after the FAA issued a warning about heightened military activity in the region.

🕵️‍♂️ The Cartel Controversy Adds Fuel to the Fire

The U.S. recently designated the Cartel de los Soles—a group it alleges is run by President Maduro and top officials—as a foreign terrorist organization.
This designation gives U.S. agencies broader authority to launch operations against it.

Venezuela has completely rejected the accusation, calling the cartel an “invention.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. insists the group has deeply infiltrated Venezuela’s military, intelligence, and judicial systems.

❓ What Do You Think?

Do you believe this escalating confrontation is about drug trafficking—or is it a political power struggle between Washington and Caracas?
